E. Joyce McComiskeywas born in Grand Lake, Nova Scotia. She moved to Charlesville when she was 16 years old. She worked in the fish plants in Pubnico, Yarmouth County for many years. Her first foray into folk art was carving relief pictures. She started painting 15 years ago when she found carving too hard on her hands. She has never taken painting classes. She and her husband, Marshall are both seniors. He helps to build the frames for her paintings.
Joyce's paintings can be found in Scotland, Monaco and in various collections throughout Nova Scotia. Her work is shown in galleries in Halifax, Lunenberg and Toronto. Joyce has sold over 1000 pieces of art.
