William Roach

William Roach is a French Acadian, born in 1950 and raised in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia. He is a self-taught artist and has been interested in art since his early childhood. William worked as a carpenter, truck driver, press operator, forklift operator and many other occupations before he started carving full-time. He has been carving full-time for 15 years. His work is very colourful and whimsical and all of his sculptures are made of pine. He has been featured on T.V. and radio and in many books and magazines such as American Style Magazine. In 2005, William was the recipient of the Grand Pre Prize in Halifax, N.S. He attends the annual Folk Art Festival in Lunenberg. William has exhibited his work in many galleries including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. This past summer he participate in the Lobsters in the City program in Halifax.
